Expert Analysis
Matt Tate | Prep Redzone Scout
Smith exploded onto the scene this year. The 6’3 172-pound wide receiver had 69 catches for 1264 yards with 16 touchdowns. He was 3rd overall in receiving yards in the state. Smith has good athletic ability due to very good jumping, change of direction, good acceleration, and speed. Smith is more of a possession receiver that consistently catches everything in his way. Very good release against both off coverage and press jam. He has very good separation quickness due to his play strength and mental processing. He’ll make himself open during the QB scramble drill. Smith has good ball tracking and very good catching. He uses his lengthy arms to pluck the ball out of the air with his strong suction hands. Smith will gain yards after contact due to bouncing off defenders, a powerful stiff arm, or a nasty juke move. I can see him contributing from the D2 to FCS level.

Smith put together a breakout campaign, finishing with 1,264 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns. His speed allows him to consistently stretch the field, highlighted by an 80 yard score that underscores his big play ability. Smith pairs that explosiveness with good size, enabling him to high point the football and become a trusted redzone target. He shows comfort winning contested catches and creating separation downfield. Still uncommitted, Smith profiles as an FCS-level receiver who could immediately elevate a wide receiver room. His production and physical tools make him a strong addition for programs seeking a proven vertical threat.

Smith has established himself as one of the premier pass catchers in Colorado’s 3A ranks this season. With 39 receptions for 878 yards and nine touchdowns, Smith has become a consistent deep threat who can flip the momentum of a game at any moment. His 80 yard touchdown showcases the top end speed that allows him to separate from defenders but what truly stands out is his ability to win at all levels of the field. He is able to work underneath routes or stretching the field vertically, Smith’s reliability and athleticism make him a go to option for his quarterback. As defenses continue to key on him, Smith’s ability to create separation and make contested catches cements him as one of 3A’s elite playmakers.
