Robert Davis | Prep Redzone Scout
Schield delivered a breakout game, showing why he could become a centerpiece for Rock Canyon’s defense. He showcased his versatility with a pick six, reading the quarterback perfectly and breaking on the ball for a defensive touchdown. He was a constant presence in the backfield, recording a sack and three tackles for loss. Schield proved he can make plays in space and also disrupt at the line of scrimmage. His instincts, athleticism and ability to impact multiple phases of the game make him a prospect that you need to have on the radar. Expect him to continue gaining traction as a name for D1 scouts.

Schield is a linebacker who excels at making open field tackles and disrupting offensive plays before they get going. He has a natural ability to get off blocks quickly or sidestep them entirely, allowing him to track down ball carriers. When his number is called, he attacks with aggression and quickness, often getting to the quarterback in an instant. Schield’s versatility makes him a key player on a loaded defense, as he can both drop back in coverage and rush the passer when needed. I believe if he is able to get on a 7on7 team this summer he could refine his coverage skills, making him an even more complete linebacker. With his combination of speed, tackling ability, and football instincts, Schield is a stock-riser who should be on every scout’s radar.

Schield had an impressive linebacker performance this past Friday. The 6’2 200-pound junior had 15 total tackles (12 solo, 3 assisted), and 1 TFL. Schield has very good athletic ability due to very good speed, acceleration, and good change of direction. He was consistently all over the field making plays on defense. He has very good strength, allowing him to bulldoze through the offensive line. He’ll swat their arms away. He’s a good block shedder, not getting wrapped up by the OL. Schield’s run stopping is impressive. He stops them in their tracks, wrapping them up and bringing them down. His physicality is shown throughout his game, as he loves to lay the boom on unsuspecting ball carriers. He’s a rising prospect that more people need to know about.

Schield is a DB who plays with a physical edge. With his physical playing style, he is a player that likes to get hands on and throw off the timing of the receivers. This physicality extends to the running game as he is not afraid to come down and deliver a hard hit on the ball carrier. When his number is called, he can apply pressure on the QB, showcasing his versatility by bringing him down for a sack. He will be a focal point on this Rock Canyon defense that will be trying to punish their opponent every chance they get.
