One of the more under-the-radar running backs in the state of Virginia, Lawrence Hewlett Lawrence Hewlett 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Prince George | 2027 State VA was an absolute stud for PGHS as a junior last fall. He was able to rumble through defenses for 1,161 rushing yards and scored 9 touchdowns in 9 games in 2025, while also playing quarterback on and off for his team.
If he has a big season in 2026, it wouldn’t be surprising whatsoever to see Hewlett start to rake in some more legitimate FBS offers by the time National Signing Day rolls around.
In-state programs like James Madison, Liberty, and Old Dominion are hot on his trail, with PITT recently offering him as well.

Lawrence is a fast and elusive running back who accelerates quickly when he finds a gap, displaying very good burst and balance. We missed him in last year’s rankings, and he will debut with a high rank among the class of 2027 running backs. He is a smooth runner, effortlessly weaving through traffic on the second and third levels and displays good break away speed to run away from most defenders he’ll face. He has received a number of D1 offers and more will come for him.

Prince George’s rising junior Lawrence Hewlett Lawrence Hewlett 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Prince George | 2027 State VA will be debuting high on our new 2027 class rankings. Picking up what appears to be his fourth division 1 offer from Old Dominion, I would say expect Hewlett’s debut to be in the top 50.

Lawrence is an elusive runner with good short area quickness that allows him to evade defenders and force missed tackles. He displays good balance to keep his feet and vision to find the hole and burst through it. Also shows the ability to create yards when blocking breaks down and defenders are in the backfield to not lose yards on a play. If we see this on film this fall, expect him to be ranked in next year’s update.
