Expert Analysis
Jordan Reyes | Prep Redzone Scout
Versatile DB prospect that can be effective from multiple spots in the secondary. 5’8” 160 lbs. currently playing safety for Spanaway Lake he flies around making plays sideline to sideline. Good with his eye’s he’s quick to read and diagnose run/pass. Like his vision and awareness to see the whole field. Plus reactionary quickness, he’s got a fast trigger and good short area burst to break on the ball and eat up space. Excellent in run support and as an open field tackler, he’s relentless in pursuit and brings heavy contact with good leverage to every tackle. Can also come down in the box and fill a gap with intent. Has been impressive in his junior year with 55 total tackles in seven games.

While LaRon wasn’t able to lay his signature hits over a weekend of non-padded camps, he honed and proved his other abilities as a defensive back. He already profiles as a great box player and is destined to be a force in the run game at any opportunity, but his performance at OSU was highlighted by his coverage ability. The sophomore might be at a height disadvantage to tight ends, but is finding the very most efficient ways to cover the hardest matchups he could face. He constantly improves his abilities by competing on every rep and could transcend the mold most assume he’ll fit in. He put himself in better and better positions as the weekend went along, jumping to the front of the line in 1-on-1s to guard bigger tight ends. Most players are afraid to let their biggest weaknesses show, but LaRon improves them every chance he gets, winning the large majority of his reps against the. He isn’t scared to face anybody right now and he certainly won’t be when he’s playing in D1, as he just continues to sharpen himself against the sharpest iron there is.

Paige continued his torrid spring, laying the big hits he’s becoming known for ever-consistently throughout the game. He also locked down the slot in coverage, which is one of his top priorities as he ascends as a prospect. His length makes it tough to cover lengthy slot-burners and tight ends, but his heart keeps him in competition on every snap that any normal player his size would be toast on. He’s still being overlooked due to his size but the weaknesses in his game are becoming few and far between, as his attitude refuses to accept anything less than 110% on any given snap. Watching Paige in the run game shows exactly why one would want him on their football team- he hits like a ton of bricks and will expose anyone who isn’t willing to compete. A good defensive coordinator will be salivating at the scheme possibilities opened up by the young, honey badger-like safety.

I wrote about Paige’s film recently, and realized he was a strong-hearted DB. His passion overflowed onto the field against Hawaii as he hit other top recruits in all sorts of scenarios. He is every bit of the hard-hitting strong safety players fear, similar to Jamal Adams. He rushes taking on half a man similar to Prez and absolutely hits like a truck, including one viral hit from the game. Paige was far more impressive in person than on tape. The announcer claimed him as the most underrated player in the FSP program. The sky-high ceiling of talent at Safety is clear here.

Paige is a hard-nosed FS and RB for Spanaway Lake who positions himself well and has the underrated skill of great awareness. It’s hard to tell if he has big-time speed based on his highlights, because while some of his high school and offseason teammates definitely do, he makes plays inside the box and between the hashes as a skill player. There have been several shorter safeties with hard-noses and enough heart to shut down other beasts in the run game for four quarters. Paige is also one of several Team FSP prospects competing in a WA v Hawaii off-season showcase game on April 23. He’ll be another one of the Sentinels’ big players to watch going forward.
