The joy of describing Griffin as a “tweener” is that he’s 15 years old, so who the heck knows what he’ll look like physically in two or three years? But for now, we’re seeing a very bright light leading him down his football tunnel.
At 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, he clearly needs to put on some weight to sustain a heavier workload at the tailback spot. He will also likely need to put a heavier emphasis on keeping his pads lower, as his height often leaves him running pretty upright. But again, if that’s the knock on him, we like where everything else is heading.
Griffin, on top of being able to see over the line, is a budding matchup problem as a pass catcher, both out of the backfield or when he’s offset from the quarterback. Tack on some time on defense, and it’s not hard to see why Blacksburg kept him on the field as much as it did during Griffin’s freshman campaign.
