Kent Staten is a starting receiver for Bedford High School. He is a true ‘athlete’ in every sense of the word: he can play as a defensive back and receiver, and has even aligned at quarterback and thrown occasionally. Staten has very good ball skills in both offense and defense, snagging interceptions out of the air nicely and undercutting routes. Staten does an excellent job of breaking on the ball and making acrobatic interceptions. As a receiver he is very shifty after the catch.
The sophomore quarterback is a talented playmaker for the Bearcats. Staten is a dual threat quarterback who has the ability to hurt you with his arm or his legs. At this point Staten is more of a runner than a thrower. As a runner he has great vision, athleticism, and creativity when he tucks it to run, and has the speed to take it to the house. As a thrower he’s a distributer who throws with touch to the intermediate and deep throws. There’s room for continued growth as a thrower and being able to drive the ball as he continues to grow and get stronger.
Staten is a solid dual-threat quarterback who can run, make plays with his legs and displays good touch on the deep ball. He could play on both offense and defense in college. Junior season could bring a breakout year.
