Hargrove has quietly put together another productive season for Victory Christian, recording 55 tackles, 6.0 tackles for loss and 3.0 sacks. He’s a physical linebacker who reads the action well and has enough athleticism to chase plays down from the second level. Hargrove has been especially effective when he can attack downhill and fill running lanes, showing a willingness to get involved against the run. He’s one of those defenders who consistently seems to be around the football, and that production has carried over from a strong finish last season. Continued consistency and the ability to make plays in different situations will be important as the postseason approaches.

Hargrove has been especially effective when he can attack downhill and fill running lanes. He’s one of those guys who consistently seems to be around the football, and that production has carried over from the strong finish he had last season. MaxPreps currently lists him at 7.6 tackles per game.

Hargrove has quietly been one of the more productive linebackers in Polk County this season and continues to put together the type of senior campaign that should get more college coaches taking a closer look. Hargrove is a physical, downhill linebacker with a strong understanding of his responsibilities and the willingness to consistently get involved around the football. At around 5-11, 225 pounds, he brings a sturdy frame to the position and has the build to handle the physical side of playing inside.

What stands out most is his ability to diagnose and react. Hargrove does a good job reading the action, getting downhill and filling running lanes without wasting much movement. He’s at his best when he’s allowed to play aggressively and attack the football, but he has enough lateral quickness and straight-line speed to track ball carriers when plays break outside. His production this season backs up what shows up on film. He posted 14 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack against Harmony, followed that with eight tackles against Calvary Christian, and most recently recorded eight tackles and a sack against Frostproof. He also had six tackles, a QB hit and two pass breakups in the season opener, including one that resulted in an interception.

There is a physicality to Hargrove’s game that makes him easy to trust as an interior linebacker. He’s not simply accumulating tackles from chasing plays down from behind; he has shown the ability to meet the action, fill gaps and make plays in traffic. The next step in his development will be continuing to show versatility in coverage and proving that his range translates against faster offenses. Still, the production, frame and instincts give him a solid foundation to continue building on. Hargrove has also picked up his first college offer from Hendrix, giving him an early opportunity to continue turning this productive season into recruiting momentum.
