Pope made the transition to RB this year, and it may have been the best move for him. He was a talented receiver with good hands, but the ball just needed to be in his hands more. That’s what happened this year, and he rewarded Princeton with a big season. He’s shifty and hard to bring down once he gets a head of steam. He can cut and make guys miss without losing any momentum. If he gets to the outside, the defense is in trouble because he can outrun just about anyone. In his first year starting in the backfield, he put up 1589 yards on 152 carries and 20 TDs.
Pope is a dynamic back who has the speed to hit the big one. He’s got good vision and lets his blocks set up. He torched North Knox on Friday on the ground, down in and down out. His 274 rushing yards and 5 TDs led the game as they cruised to an easy win.
Pope is an incredibly explosive receiver who has as good of a short-area burst as anyone in the class. The offensive game plan, at times, is to find Pope and get him the ball. He’s thick enough to break tackles. He’ll make guys miss and take their ankles with him. He carried the ball quite a bit this year as well from the backfield. With 31 grabs for 507 yards and 7 TDs and then carrying the ball 35 times in year 3, you’d anticipate him having a bigger role as a senior and I think he’s ready to flourish with all eyes on.
