Julian is a versatile and instinctive defensive back who can impact the game in multiple ways. He reads the quarterback well, breaks on passes quickly, and has the speed to stay with receivers in man coverage or patrol zones effectively. Julian is also physical enough to step up in run support, making him a threat both in the air and on the ground. His combination of awareness, agility, and ball skills makes him a reliable playmaker in the secondary.

Mayfield was limited by an ankle injury but began the retreat going through drills and he was impressive. The defensive back coach who gave him praise early on during the footwork session. After reviewing his 2023 film, he showed his natural ball skills and he has a nose for the football. Mayfield tackles well in the open field by taking proper angles to the ball carrier.
