Expert Analysis
Jordan Reyes | Prep Redzone Scout
Matautia had a great junior season that saw him being voted First Team All Metro and Lineman of the Year. At 5’11” 290 lbs. he’s got a strong frame packed with power at the POA. He’s a violent finisher that explodes at the point of engagement bringing his hips and feet upon contact to drive opponents off the ball. He’s a plus athlete that can move his feet and shows great mobility working to the second level or as a pulling guard. Well-coached, he’s got great technique in both his footwork and hand usage. He’s a heavy striker that gets good extension on his initial punch and does a good job repositioning and recovering from defenders moves. He’s under control and attacks with a good wide base to be balanced at the contact point. Expect him to see a bump in recruiting attention as the cycle progresses and he’s able to show off his skillset.

Jojo Matautia is an extremely fun guard to watch. It’s hard not to get hyped seeing him excitedly getting into space and blasting defenders as he accelerates through contact. His low center of gravity and quick movement make him a difficult leverage matchup, which he consistently takes advantage of. He has a good get off and uses it to punish DL who don’t, or take a play off, in the run game. His footwork is great at both Guard and Tackle, and although he projects to fit better on the inside, he can kick out to execute versatile schemes on the outside. He continues to earn his spot as a top OL in the State. Matautia will produce tons more tape as he anchors one of the top teams in the state in Eastside Catholic and has looked great at Center in offseason camps with FSP.
