Bumpus had a good freshman year and made an impact right away. He seems to be wired the right way and plays with a maturity you don’t always see from younger players. He’s a good athlete with good instincts and consistently puts himself in position to make plays. I like his vision and the way he breaks down as a tackler, and he’s always looking to strip the football instead of just settling for the stop. He put up 70 tackles, 7 TFLs, and 2 forced fumbles as a freshman as he was getting a feel for the Varsity speed. If year one looked like this, I’d be excited to see what the next couple of seasons have in store.

Joel Bumpus Joel Bumpus 5'9" | 195 lbs | LB/RB Crittenden County | 2029 State KY is coming off a strong freshman year at outside linebacker for Crittenden County. He is very impressive against the run, showing the ability to read the play quickly then use his speed to get to the ball carrier before they can get going. Once he gets to the ball carrier, Bumpus does a great job of running his feet through contact to secure the tackle with ease. As a freshman, Joel recorded 70 tackles and seven tackles for loss in 10 games. He also came away with one interception and scored two rushing touchdowns this past season. Joel is a player who college coaches should be paying close attention to going into his sophomore season.
