This past August, PRZ Next’s No.1 2027 prospect coming out of middle school was Jayden Kelly-Murray, now at Summerville High School. This season, it’s 2028 linebacker Jaylen Pryor–also a Summerville prospect–that has caught my eye on film. Just an eighth-grader, Pryor is listed at 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds (unofficially) and is having a very strong year as a middle linebacker on the JV level. Pryor brings a scary amount of athleticism to the linebacker position. He gets his hands on more passes–either deflecting them or picking them off–than most athletes in the secondary do. On film it’s easy to see why he’s had a prolific year in pass defense. When he reads pass, he does a borderline-elite job at opening his hips and gaining depth in his drops. To double down on that, his speed and agility helps him blanket pockets of the field. It goes without saying as a middle linebacker, that he’s frequently around the ball as well during run plays–padding the state sheet in the tackles department. I’ll say this about the Green Wave prospect, I wouldn’t totally count out a move to a strong safety with his skillset against the run and the pass.
