One of the top ranked out of prospect from Delaware’s 2028 class, Javon Byrd passes the eye test. He made a ton of plays on both sides of the ball for Harlem Elite, seemingly controlling the middle of their 15u squads defense, while be a reliable target on offense. Byrd ranks 8th overall in our Delaware 2028 class rankings, he definitely has a future at the next level.

Byrd has a lot going for him in the athletic physique and potential department. As mentioned by Al Pops, “long torso and legs, his frame is going to allow some great things.” I want to bookmark that statement because a lot of players get thrown in a box. Yes, Javon is longer but watch him fill out and that is a combination for trouble to a defense when you don’t have to leave the backfield. Can he play receiver? Probably will the ball skills he has, however, I’m a fan of his vision in and out of the hole. On top of his sweet feet to make people miss, which ends up leading to big plays. I say do what comes natural young man and work this off-season on keep the pigskin glued to your ribs. That’s just a pet peeve of mine. Friday nights will be lit up really soon with announcers consistently calling out Javon Byrds name.

A prospect that passes the eye test right away. Long torso and legs, his frame is going to do allow some great things. Listed as a running back but can really play any skill position. Was named Newcomer of the Year this past season for the MOT Steelers.
Area for improvement: Hip flexibility and lengthening his strides

Before an unfortunate injury ended his 2024 8th grade All-Delaware Bowl prematurely, Javon Byrd showed off exactly just how good could he could potentially become. When talking about athletes that stood out from the rest during practice, Byrd was certainly near the top of the list. He looked the part at running back, with a long torso and long legs on top of it–in the mold of Najee Harris of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Showed off impressive vision on cutbacks and moved with suddenness if he saw a lane to get to/through.
