About James
Expert Analysis
Bryan Ault | Prep Redzone Scout
Williams is a physical presence on the inside of the line and has a great frame and bend. He’s off the ball quickly and has a fast first step. His hands are strong, and once he latches onto his defender, that rep for them is pretty much over. He’s not heavy on his feet and tends to stay off his heels. He’s a 3-star recruit who recently committed to Purdue over other offers like Appalachian State and Northern Illinois. – Sam Erman

Williams committed to in-state Purdue, and the Boilers are getting a great offensive lineman who has a mean streak and flashes great first step quickness. Williams is an absolute mauler in the run game: he can take on multiple defenders, runs his feet on contact and drive defenders off the ball. Starting at right tackle, he is likely a guard at the next level.

Williams has been a menace for Lawrence Central and has all the right traits. I remember him coming in as a freshman and being a bit undersized but he put the work in and has developed his body. He’s consistent on the field as well and has been since he got out there. He brings a sense of peace to the front and the offensive line rallied around him last year.

Williams transferred down to Lawrence Central from Northrop this past season and it may have been the best thing for him. He’s put on a good 25lbs of muscle and is playing against some of the state’s best competition. He’s got a great frame, has incredibly strong hands, and bends as well as you’d hope for a guy his size. He’s nimble on his feet as well and doesn’t get caught on his heels. He’s got all the makings of a D1 OL recruit and he’s well on his way if he continues to develop and play like he is.
