A Wisconsin underclassman offensive lineman earning P4 attention? It’s a tale as old as time and continued with 2026 Oak Creek High School 6’4, 300 lber. James Thomas. Despite Oak Creek’s tradition of producing high-quality high school football prospects, Thomas came into his 2023 sophomore season unheralded and under the radar, which set up an eye-catching and explosive introduction to the Wisconsin and Midwest recruiting sphere when the Arkansas Razorbacks became offer #1 for the sophomore RT in mid-March. Now, he’s the #1 prospect in Wisconsin’s 2026 class, and the home state Badgers have also entered the mix after reaching out with an offer in early April. I shouldn’t have to explain that it’s a big deal when a Wisconsin kid earns the coveted Badgers offer, and Thomas is looking like a heckuva talent out of the Badger State, even by the standard of OL recruits the state produces.
All of his 6’4, 300 lbs., Thomas carries the weight well and is a strong, balanced, technically sound run blocker with good leg drive and some massive mits that knock opponents backward when he makes initial contact and gets under their chest plates. I like how he’s laterally agile and can reach and square up DL outside of his gap, and his mobility extends to his ability to lead block and find work in space. Pass pro isn’t passive, and Thomas is a good example of that, as he brings the fight to his opponents and shows off a solid base and an effective pass set. The 300 lber. also understands leverage and knows how to take advantage of an opponent when he gets them off balance or out of position and has some thundering pancakes and finishes in his sophomore tape. A big, powerful mauler with a ton of time to continue developing his already-strong frame and some noticeable balance and agility, I think Thomas looks primed to play iOL in college and is going to see make some even bigger waves on the recruiting trail when some junior tape starts coming out. Great move by the Razorbacks getting in there early!
