About Jakobe
Expert Analysis
Shayne Pickering | Prep Redzone Scout
Jakobe Thomas is a two-way standout and is an effective special teams player for Tullahoma that is clearly a level ahead of everyone else on the football field.
While he is a versatile playmaker, he projects best at safety due to his elite length for the position at 6-foot-2, impressive closing speed, physicality and ball skills.
He will need to add weight to his frame and improve the initial burst as he breaks downhill, but that should come with a Division One level strength program. After a year in the strength program, he could establish himself as a physical, downhill safety quickly.
He can play both the deep safety and box safety role with his intangibles and instincts which could make him an exciting safety that can patrol the middle of the field.
He has shown the ball skills as a receiver as well as the ability to return turnovers with his experience as a running back and returner.
He will need to improve his natural ability in isolated coverage situations, but likely will not be tasked with true nickel responsibilities at the next level.
Ultimately, he will need a year to develop his body, tap into his traits and adjust to the faster speed of the game, but he has the intangibles to be a successful downhill safety at the college level.
