Brooks proved why he’s one of the top defensive backs in the state. Fresh off of some D1 offers, he consistently won matchups with a combination of physicality and solid footwork. Lined up against some of the best receivers at the showcase, Brooks did well and often came out on top. Even when beaten off the line of scrimmage, his elite recovery speed allowed him to get back into position and make plays. Brooks was a clear standout at the DB position—on his new home field, no less. He recently transferred from Canarsie to perennial powerhouse Abraham Lincoln High School.

Brooks is the #1 CB in the class based of JR tape – Brooks was a guy who had minimal sophomore film but has been in our database since FR year at Canarsie.
Brooks had sort of a breakout year. He produced some tape that showcased how his athleticism and length are an asset in man coverage. He is still raw from a positional skillset standpoint, but he shows great athleticism on tape.
Brooks has good coverage reps on tape, and his athleticism points towards a high ceiling at the next level, but in a run-heavy league like the PSAL, coverage reps at college camps will be important for coaches.

Brooks played some as a sophomore, but there was not close to enough film to evaluate his ability well; this year, he was one of the better DBs in the PSAL, which, as a league, sent many defensive backs to the next level and provided the film to back that up.
Brooks is a great athlete, but not many defensive backs display the same level of athleticism on tape. A more thorough evaluation will be out in the defensive back breakdown, but at the skill positions, Brooks is the type of prospect who gives you a good reminder that athleticism is king in recruiting.

We finally get some Brooks tape, a player who I have known about for a while now. Brooks was really solid for Canarsie this season – a true outside CB, Brooks plays a lot of coverage 5-8 yards off the ball, he has fluid hips as he transitions from his backpedal, he does a great job of jumping short area routes and screens and is a physical finisher.
You don’t see a ton against the run on tape, but against screens/swing passes, Brooks does a great job of fighting through blocks and tackling in space.

Brooks was a player I was high on heading into last season. The Canarsie DB was a decent bright spot in what was a down year for them. He has 1 game of film posted, and it shows some solid movement skills. He was fairly effective at DB, with a couple of INTs for Canarsie. A stronger team should help the overall squad this season, but I think Brooks can make a lot of noise with his Junior tape.
