After finally seeing Jackson a few weeks ago in person, I came away really impressed. His physicality and technique absolutely stood out, even among a really solid defensive front for St. Johns. He plays with a strong lower half, allowing him to control his gap and remain a constant run stopping force. He keeps his pad level low and keeps himself in leverage to win reps against some solid offensive line play. He understands how to use his hands and disengage with linemen, using chop or swim moves, then hitting them with a burst to get them out of position and get him into the backfield. His highlight tape over the first few weeks backed up my in person evaluation. A well rounded defensive lineman who is able to generate pressure up the middle in passing downs, while controlling the interior run gaps with ease. I’m really looking forward to what Armstrong and his St. Johns team can accomplish the rest of the season!
I loved what I saw out of Jackson. As I mentioned, the St. Johns defensive line was physical and hard to push around. Jackson was another strong force inside that propelled this defense to the great stand at the end of the game. Below are what notes I took of Armstrong and his great play:
-Slashes hands off of him every play, always gets loose and into the mix
-Fires off low and fast, brings the pop and has high motor to the whistle
-Sure tackler, great technique and wraps up every time
Jackson is a guy I gotta see this offseason. His tape shows a handful of very good blocks, the first one in particular standing out. He’s able to keep his center of gravity, lock out, and hold his ground against some solid defenders. As a run blocker, Jackson looks solid. A few issues, including leaning and improper footwork, but nothing that isn’t fixable. Lastly, the tape is sped up on Youtube. Do not speed up your highlight tape, it is a major red flag.
A good offensive lineman whose college value is unclear. I bet I’ll see him at some camps, and I bet colleges will get plenty of opportunities to evaluate Jackson.
