The City of Dell Rapids is a 2027 hotbed that already has a couple of commitments already, but one that I feel is more under the radar than he should be, is Dell Rapids St Mary’s Gavin Pica Gavin Pica 6'4" | 250 lbs | OL St. Mary's | 2027 State SD . The 6’4 250 pounder looked sound in the live eval I got at the Augustana Prospect Camp and the biggest area I wanted to pay attention to most going in was his footwork, in which Gavin showed off a great first step and balance for his size that surely as college coaches know, that still has plenty of room to fill out. With his position flexibility on both sides of the trenches, I feel Gavin is scratching closer to the surface on getting more attention very soon as this young man can surely play scholarship football on Saturdays.

Dell Rapids St. Mary’s by far has the most elite class of offensive linemen at the 9-man level in this 2027 class, as Gavin Pica Gavin Pica 6'4" | 250 lbs | OL St. Mary's | 2027 State SD is one of a few that pave the way upfront for the 2025 9B state champions. The interest thus far has been pretty evident that this young man will likely get some offers in the coming months as the 6’4 250 pounder shows off the agile movement you want as a pull-blocker downhill. Gavin also shows off an agile first step for his size and its no wonder that D1s and D2s have already showed off heavy interest already this winter for the Cardinals left guard. He also has upside that could progress into the defensive trenches, as Gavin seems to almost run over (but thru) blockers in the A-gap finding the ball carrier. Gavin is surely one that will catch a lot of eyes this summer at camps throughout the Dakotas.

Another 9B offensive linemen we just watched minutes ago win a state championship was Gavin Pica Gavin Pica 6'4" | 250 lbs | OL St. Mary's | 2027 State SD who has overwhelming size and as just a junior with the tape to back it up. Gavin showed off great footwork today and the same is true on tape as he was more sudden with his feet into the second level than I expected him to be today especially during the live eval of him and the Cardinals in the 9B state championship game. He obviously is another two-way trench monster for St Mary’s that has an impressive speed with his get off with his blocks as a defensive tackle. He comes from great football pedigree, as his brother that committed to DWU out of high school just got on scholarship at SDSU at tight end somewhat recently. I feel a similar path could be coming Gavin’s way.

Gavin is a 2027 prospect that I said a few weeks back that I was “kicking myself” I didn’t have him higher the first update. He moved up 20+ spots now from that last update and from a technique perspective, certainly one of the most sound offensive linemen outside of the top 50, which should show you his prospect ceiling isn’t done growing. The 5’10 225 pounder from Dell Rapids St. Mary, has a fiery intiial punch for his size and sound pad-level seems to be very consistent throughout his tape. I wouldn’t be surprised if Gavin has more room for a growth spurt (brother is now 6’4 and at SDSU) as that would again, move this young man up further by next update.
