Promising 3-week tape from the Saginaw Valley State commit.
I know exactly who Gavin is. He’s a phenomenal athlete, built super well, and he wants to be great. So far, Gavin’s tape is solid.
The tape kicks off with an inside run stop. Basic A-gap read, and a great job filling the hole. At 0:31, Gavin does an excellent job reading the pitch, running past the WR block, and making the tackle. Pretty good angle, but I would love to see Gavin explode and tackle with more force. Finally, we’ll watch 1:01 as Gavin earns a strip sack. Great job running down the QB.
Like I said, I know exactly who Gavin is as a player. Super talented. Super well-built. Should continue to develop this season and in college.

May’s the real deal. Also the only D2-committed player on this list.
The listed height and weight are accurate, and he’s one of the most well-built players in the state. Just based on his size profile, May is LB1.
Athletically, May stands out. Excellent all-around metrics, good testing, and looks phenomenal in drills. He’s going to be an incredible player at Saginaw Valley State if development goes well.

I thought he was a MAC prospect. A MAC coach I talked to thought the same thing. Near-elite athlete, built extremely well, and checks a ton of boxes. Gavin was a phenomenal first watch at the MHSAA camp in Brighton.
Gavin still has a ton of room to grow. He’s still pretty raw, but upside is nearly unmatched.

- Shocked by how well Gavin moves. Explosive, great change of direction, has all of the athletic tools to be a D1 linebacker
- Physicality and speed show up on tape
- All-around, looks better in person than on tape
- A college coach expressed that Gavin is pretty raw outside of athletic ability.
- Gavin should continue camping this offseason. Size, athletic ability too good to pass up for MAC programs.
- No doubt MAC prospect. Has earned a rankings boost

Those are Gavin’s three biggest strengths. A camp like this was absolutely perfect for Gavin to showcase his skillset. During the pre-competition agility drills, Gavin was the clear-cut #1 linebacker. Just looking at size and dill work, Gavin looks like a D1 prospect.
Competition is where I need to see more. I only remember catching one rep of his, and he was tasked with defending a quick route to the flat, which obviously didn’t show me much when it comes to coverage skills. After getting a decent look at Gavin, I am confident he’s a MAC prospect, and I definitely have him ranked too low.

Three weeks in, I have a very good idea of who Gavin is as a linebacker. Starting out, his size at 6’1″ 220 is excellent. That size further shows itself with a few hard hits on his tape (0:30, for example). The rest of his tape shows some straight-up good linebacker play. The highlight at 1:15 shows good reaction and attack to the QB run. Several other plays show good between-the-tackles run stops, but I’d honestly like to see much better play speed in the future.
