, a running back at Knox. Central High School. In addition to excellent footwork, what makes Johnson such an impactful ground weapon is his breakaway speed, ability to stay on his feet in the pocket and his ability to pick up bursts of speed in the backfield to march into the endzone. I also like Johnson’s ability to quickly get in position, haul in the short pass from along the edge and utilize time and space to take it all the way to the house.Access all of Prep Redzone

Displays terrific vision and solid footwork and easily cuts back against the grain without losing momentum. Finds the running lanes, plays fast, and has an explosive burst of speed.
Turns it upfield, makes defenders miss, and consistently runs north/south. Resilient, follows blocks everywhere on the field, and will pick and choose spots. Quickly gets into pass routes and adjusts to the errant throw. Effective when extending to make the reception away from his frame. Remains disciplined with blocking assignments.

Eval: One of the top returning rushers for the coming Fall season is this East Tennessee back that has sat under the radar throughout this entire recruiting process but Johnson can run the rock and I could see a 2,000 yard season out of him this year. Strong, physically well built with a well balanced running style, Johnson brings a punishing style of game play to the football field that gives opposing defense’s fits as they have a hard time bringing this guy down. The Bobcats senior back has a powerful lower base that allows him to break through tackles and keep pushing forward but also burst through the mesh looking for open field. Johnson isn’t the fastest back from our senior class and that may be why he is lacking the offers but he has good enough speed to get the job done (JR Film shows plenty of breakaway runs) and the capacity to get faster as he matures. What I like the most about Johnson is his desire to run the football along with his vision to find open space. This guy is a natural running back that simply produces, getting the job done on a consistent basis and I feel whoever signs him, will be getting a steal. Johnson is a prime candidate for Class 5A Mr. Football this year and a prospect that can see his stock explode with a strong senior campaign.

Nice-sized ball carrier who consistently runs north and south. Keeps his feet moving, gets a lot of momentum going, and rarely gets brought down by a single defender. Displays vision and strength and picks up the difficult yardage. Patient, waits for blocks to develop, and runs with authority. Drives his shoulders into defenders and falls forward when tackled. Displays a burst through the hole.

Runs with good knee bend and a low center of gravity. Has quick feet and makes clean cuts in the backfield. Makes solid decisions, showing good vision and patience. Possesses good burst in the hole and wastes little time hitting the line when the blocking is there. Smooth accelerator on outside rushing attempts, with above-average top-end speed. Very flexible, elusive player in space; difficult to bring down in one-on-one situations when he gets to the outside/second level, making sharp cuts and showing impressive stop/start skills. Able to run through some arm tackles once he gets going.

Pro’s: The leading returning rusher from the East TN region, Johnson IV is a powerful, physical runner that finds a hole and quickly attacks. He hardly hesitates when diagnosing his path and once he gets into the open, the Bobcats running back shows nice burst and deceptive speed. Johnson IV also shows on film good lower base agile movements and shifty feet. If you want a guy to churn out tough yards in the mesh, Johnson IV is a great option. Cons: Johnson IV isn’t the biggest of guys in height and continued work on his body must be done. He also needs continued work with his overall speed and explosion. Playing in a run based offense, Johnson IV isn’t asked too much to pass block or catch the ball too much either, so development in those area’s need work too.
