Ellison Collins IV
About Ellison
Expert Analysis
Alin Edouard | Prep Redzone Scout
Ellison is a hidden gem in this class, bringing intriguing length at 6’3” to the defensive backfield for Texas State. His frame immediately stands out, giving him the ability to match up with taller receivers and disrupt passing lanes both at the line and at the catch point. He plays with natural fluidity for his size, showing the ability to turn and run without looking stiff, which is a big asset in both man and zone coverage.
In coverage, Ellison uses his length well to close windows and contest throws, especially on vertical routes where he can stay in phase and finish plays at the top of the route. He’s also willing in run support, showing the competitiveness to step downhill and contribute as a tackler when plays come into his area. His biggest upside comes from his athletic build and ability to develop technically—especially in press technique and anticipation.

At 6’3, 185 pounds, Collins is a matchup problem on both sides of the ball. As a defensive back he is a rangy player who drives well on the ball and uses his length to disrupt passes. Collins shows a good hip flip and tracks the ball very well in the air. He can excel in both man and zone and can eliminate a top target from a gameplan. As a receiver, Collins is a deep-threat. He can win any one-on-one matchup and has shown to haul in contested catches with strength. He high-points the ball very well and uses his frame to his advantage. Collins played a pivotal role on both sides last season and may bring that same impact for next.
