Coming over to Anderson Co. in the off-season proved to be the right move for Dorton as he not only got better as a prospect but he and his Mavs team are one step away from competing for a state championship. This 6’6 O-lineman pushed his game further by improving his lower body athleticism and mobility while packing on the needed size to become a bully in the trenches. Dorton does a good job of locking onto his man in the run game and driving him off the ball. He is also an underrated pass protector that still has room to develop in that area. Once committed to Furman, Dorton is back on the open market and sits as one of the best available at his position. Potential is there to one day become a D1 guy with continued development and work.

Making the move over to Anderson Co. has proved to be the right decision for Dorton as he has taken his game to another level and placed himself as a potential D1 target through the late process of recruiting. His work this Fall has been excellent where he has developed his agility further while increasing his strength and showing that he could handle the tackle position in college. Dorton is a big boy that looks the part of a college guy. He is filling out his frame nicely and I think he can continue to develop his frame once he gets into a college weight system. The possibility is there for Dorton to become a starting right tackle but at worst, the Mavs senior would become an excellent option inside at guard. Furman is getting a good one here and a lineman that could become a multi year starter one day.

Through the early part of the 2024 season, Dorton has been one of the more impressive O-linemen coming out of East Tennessee and from this #TN2025 recruiting class that will see a boost in his ranking during our next update. The Mavs senior big man moved over to Anderson Co. from Campbell Co. this off-season and it’s paying off as a bigger spotlight has been put on Dorton and he is excelling under it while improving every step of the way. Standing 6’5 290 pounds, Dorton has developed nicely with adding in weight and maintaining his agility and lower base mobility. His improved development is showing on film so far this year where I think Dorton may start hearing from D1 and possibly Power Four before too long.
The biggest thing for me to watch the remainder of the season is how he continues to handle playing left tackle for the Mavs and how he holds up with his pass blocking. So far this season, Dorton is doing a good job of that, showing the potential to play tackle in college. The power and strength are there, so if Dorton can continue developing his footwork and overall athleticism, handling tackle in college is very possible. At worst, Dorton can slide inside at guard and become an impactful run blocker and a more than adequate interior pass blocker. This East TN big man is currently committed to Furman and he may sign with the Paladins but keep an eye on bigger schools as they are already picking up their interest.
