The returning signal caller for the top team in 1A last season, Easton DeJong is back under center for West Lyon with the hopes of taking them back to the promised land this fall. Finishing last season with the most touchdowns scored amongst juniors (27), DeJong may take his game to another level during his senior campaign.
In 2025, DeJong completed 83-of-130 passes (63.8%) for 1,300 yards, 16 touchdowns and just two interceptions. As a runner, he took 62 carries for 558 yards and nine scores. So, doing the math, where did his other two scores come from? DeJong benefitted from the talent and playcalling around him, as well, grabbing two catches for 28 yards and two scores.
Of course, playcalling can only do so much — DeJong has the arm for deep shots, the IQ on when and where to throw the rock, the speed to make plays with his feet and more. He’ll be a name to keep tabs on for this award.

had massive shoes to fill replacing Bryson Childress after guiding West Lyon to a state championship title, but DeJong did a brilliant job, helping West Lyon defend their throne and claim a second straight title. DeJong threw for 1300 yards, 16 TDs, and 2 INTs while rushing for 558 yards (9 YPC) and 9 rushing TDs. DeJong flashed exceptional accuracy, particularly on the run, with several clips from his tape showcasing some impressive throws through tight windows with multiple defenders swarming around the ball, but ultimately finding it’s way right to the receiver. A mobile threat, DeJong is effective keeping the ball himself, showcasing sneaky agility and impressive breakaway speed in the open field. DeJong has proven to be a worthy successor under Center for the Wildcats, and he’ll look to add a 3rd straight title to their belt.

To say I was impressed with DeJong’s play during the state semifinals and finals this season would be an understatement. The tall, long-limbed athlete quarterbacked West Lyon to the Class 1A state championship. The junior completed 63.8 percent of his throws for 1,300 yards and 16 touchdowns against only two interceptions. He also rushed for 558 yards (9.0 YPC) and nine scores, caught a pair of passes for 28 yards and two TDs, and added a couple of two-point conversions. DeJong is a good athlete with a projectable frame capable of adding strength and good weight without the loss of it. His 11th-grade highlight video impresses. DeJong has a big arm, can fit the ball into tight windows and makes good decisions. He’s a kid worthy of more attention on the recruiting trail.
