Philpott shows smooth backpedal mechanics and anticipation in man coverage, consistently finding his way into the receiver’s hip pocket. His timing when playing through the catch point is physical but controlled, limiting separation without drawing penalties.
His closing speed allows him to break on underneath routes with confidence. He competes in the run game, pursuing plays outside his initial alignment and finishing through contact. The high motor shows up late in reps, making him dependable across coverage shells.
Philpott is a dynamic defender who is terrific at defending the run and pass for his defense. Against the run, Philpott is a talented tackler who does really well in pursuit- he plays with a ton of effort and consistently tracks and hustles to the ball to make sideline-to-sideline plays nearly every down.
Philpott is just as productive out in coverage- he’s physical at the line of scrimmage, isn’t easily beaten downfield, and has the skills to stick with WRs in coverage and locate and get hands on the ball to create big stops for his defense.
Do yourself a favor and check out some of Philpott’s tape below- he has a lot of potential and is set up for a big junior season.

is an super talented man to man corner out of Homewood that made a huge impact in their secondary last fall. Philpott has a lot of great traits as a coverage corner that are going to make him a really tough prospect for opposing offenses to face against the next few years. Philpott plays really well on the outside- he has excellent closing speed that allows him to quickly fly to receivers to jar the ball free, pick it off, or make tackles. In addition to his abilities against the pass, Philpott does a great job getting involved in run defense. Frequently on tape you can find him making a lot of tackles in the box, outside, and in the open field. Keep an eye on him going forward, he’s got a lot of potential as a DB!
