About Dwataye
Expert Analysis
Tyler Graham | Prep Redzone Scout
I knew who Sams was heading into this game, but it took no more than just a drive or 2 for me to say “I like the way #5 plays” only to check my roster and figure out it was Dwataye. He’s a dynamic DB with the ability to cover sideline to sideline.
- Spectacular speed, was able to get in throwing lanes and make life difficult in the passing game for BC
- Was much more physical than I anticipated, was a legit force in the run game
- Very reactive and able to rally to the ball no matter where the play was
- High effort kid, doesn’t take plays off

If it weren’t for other elite weapons on the East Lansing offense, Dwataye would be a much more well-known player.
Dwataye is an elusive weapon through and through, doing his best work in the open field.
Out of the backfield, Dwataye does extremely well once he gets to the second level. Against inexperienced LBs, Dwataye is able to consistently juke, stutter step, and otherwise get past those defenders. Out in open space (screens for the most part), Dwataye navigates through open space well. Overall, he’s a great weapon for the East Lansing offense to go to a few times per game.

Although I believe Dwataye is a raw prospect, his traits are extremely promising. Since March, he’s received offers from Wayne State and Sienna Heights.
His film shows a ton of potential as an open-field speed-in-space player. The bulk of the film shows Dwataye receiving the ball in space. His first highlight shows a phenomenal screen play that he takes to the house. Several other highlights show good vision on the outside run before turning upfield, showcasing great speed. In addition, the highlight at 1:33 shows amazing vision, patience, and an elite cutback to take it to the house. With a standout Fall season, Dwataye could easily earn more GLIAC offers.

Last season, Sams put up extremely respectable numbers. 1197 yards, 14TDs on 10.1YPC is great, but I think Dwataye was scratching the surface. That said, I don’t love his 2023 film. I thought he didn’t make the most out of a few of his carries, and I thought his overall athleticism could have been better. Tough, an offer from Wayne State plus impressive testing numbers prove that Dwataye’s ceiling is high. It looks like he’s been putting in the work this offseason, and I fully expect him to add to his 2023 numbers in 2024.
