About Domonic
Expert Analysis
Will Helms | Prep Redzone Scout
We saw Williams at our Prep Redzone Showcase last summer and immediately fell in love with the long, rangy corner. His movement skills and technical ability, namely the way he moves in short areas, are mature beyond his years. We felt fairly confident he’d have a breakout sophomore year, and that’s what he did, with 39 tackles and two interceptions.

., rated as the No. 4 defensive back in the state for the Class of 2028, is ready to take that next step and step fully into the spotlight. The Jacksonville sophomore already has the tools — size, speed, and instincts — to be special, and now he’s focused on turning potential into production. With a strong offseason behind him and high expectations ahead, Williams is aiming to prove why he’s one of the top young defenders in the state. Don’t be surprised if he becomes a household name by season’s end.

Dominic Williams Jr. – CB – Jacksonville High School (Class of 2028)
Dominic Williams Jr. was the top underclassman cornerback at the camp I covered—hands down. The Jacksonville High School product has been on my radar this offseason, and each time I’ve seen him, he’s taken another step forward. His progression has been consistent and impressive.
This was my first time watching him in true game situations, and he didn’t disappoint. Williams is a skill technician at corner—his hands and feet are always in sync, and he plays with confidence and control. His competitiveness stood out, and it’s clear he has a high ceiling.
Heading into his sophomore season, Williams is primed for a breakout. By the end of the year, expect him to be recognized statewide for his talent.

. emerged as the top overall defensive back at the camp—and he’s only a freshman. At 5’11”, 178 pounds, he already possesses the ideal size for a cornerback, along with long arms and excellent athletic traits. Williams is extremely polished for his age, showing the ability to play both off-man and press coverage with confidence. He moves with fluidity and discipline, and his 4.47 shuttle reflects his quickness and sharp footwork. Add in his coachability and natural instincts, and it’s clear Williams Jr. is an elite prospect with a very bright future.

Williams is an exceptionally polished defensive back for his age. Watching him move through drills, you’d easily mistake him for an upperclassman. His technique, confidence, and football IQ stand out immediately. Williams didn’t shy away from competition—he stepped up to challenge the top receivers at the camp. While he didn’t win every rep, he competed at a high level and showed the mentality and skill set of a future standout.

. this offseason, and the growth in his game is undeniable. At our first encounter, he took home the Defensive Back MVP—a well-deserved honor that showcased his natural talent and competitive edge.
Currently ranked as the #27 overall athlete in North Carolina and the #3 defensive back, Domonic is trending upward, and I fully expect him to climb both rankings soon. Every time I see him, one thing stands out: he’s getting smoother in coverage and more aggressive at the point of attack. His confidence and physicality continue to elevate with each rep.
Williams Jr. is a name to know in the 2028 class, and at this rate, he has all the tools to become the top defensive back in his classification.

Williams has elite potential as a long, physical corner. He only cracked the varsity lineup in 2024, but looks poised for a breakout season in 2025. He’s excellent at reading and reacting, making most of his big plays in the backfield on outside runs. That doesn’t mean he struggles in coverage. On the contrary, he has excellent body control and ball skills for a freshman.

. He doesn’t have as much varsity film as some of the other guys on this list. His length, speed, and ball skills scream high-level defender. Jacksonville defensive backs are usually well-coached and he’ll have plenty of opportunities to put up numbers against some of the best passing offenses in the state.

– The North Carolina Future Stars seventh grade defensive back’s were tested early in game one, by a Florida team with a pair of Wide Receivers that both project to D1 prospects–and they were up to the challenge
– Williams originally stood out to me in practice as a good player, but after watching his performance against Florida, I left the event thinking he’s a great player. In fact, had an interception against Florida and South Carolina
– Listed at 5-foot-7 and 135 pounds, he gave up a ton of size but he made up for it with absolutely perfect technique and was essentially lock down. That lack of size I mentioned, looks like it’s going to change too. He has long legs and a shorter torso, which tells me he has more growing to do. Really, really impressed by him
