Diezel Wilkinson
About Diezel

Wilkinson is a weapon who lines up anywhere in the backfield for East Valley, and has some of the sickest highlights you’ll find. Popping up on YouTube just 3 months ago, the 6-minute video begins with a half-dozen explosive touchdown runs that make you ask how he does it. If you give him an inch, be prepared to lose a mile- he never gets caught from behind and is the fastest moving player on every high school field he plays on. He’s been recorded at a 4.48 40-yd dash yet seems to just be unlocking his true potential as a runner with improving start form and spring-loaded mechanics. He also breaks up to 5 tackles on a single play, showing intense lower body strength and balance that allow him staying power on his feet. His cuts fool defenders with ease and his vision allows him to pave the least obvious paths to the end zone, putting them on skates and turning them into bowling pins at the correct moment each time. He’s recently received his first two offers from Montana and Idaho while taking Idaho’s Safety MVP so far this camp season, and has taken Washington State and Montana State visits as well. He could lead the state in rushing this season. Diezel’s film and measurables will take him to D1 football where he’ll be an immediate home-run threat, as he just committed to Idaho at the beginning of the month.

Diezel lines up and played quarterback for East Valley last year but their offensive style results in quite a few QB runs. He is extremely athletic, using his legs to avoid defenders with ease. His footwork is exceptional and he is poised for another huge season on the ground.

Diezel is listed as a running back, one of the best in the state in fact. But with how East Valley runs their offense, he lines up as a quarterback and takes the snaps a lot of the time, which is why he will be included in this article. During the teams week 6 victory over North Central HS, Diezel did it all for the team. He did what he usually does with his feet, rushing for 200 yards and 3 touchdowns, which is normal for him. He’s so fast with the ball in his hands, it’s very exciting to watch. He evades a lot of tackles, using his agility to dodge defenders. He also contributed through the air, passing for 122 yards and 2 touchdowns. He’s going to continue to wreck havoc on defenses.

Diezel’s a plus athlete with a versatile skillset to impact the game from multiple positions on both sides of the ball. He shows good fluidity and body control in addition to his all-around speed and lateral quickness. He’s a homerun threat with the ball in his hands using his top end speed and elusiveness in the open field. Good ability to get north/south and then use his vision and awareness to find space or create open running lanes for himself. Like his contact balance and leg drive to break tackles at the first and second levels. As a sophomore he rushed for 1,600 yards and 17 touchdowns and was voted the GSL All-Purpose MVP. He’s an explosive playmaker wherever he lines up and expect to see him climbing rankings and recruiting boards as he continues to develop and showcase his skillset.
