Recruiting interest has not caught up with the ability yet. He has shown enough as a passer and overall athlete to warrant Division One attention moving forward. There is quality upside with plenty of football still ahead of him. This is the type of quarterback who could see his offer sheet change quickly.

His ability to sit back, read defenses, and deliver an accurate ball is impressive. His mechanics and footwork in the pocket are impeccable. He then throws an accurate ball. He also has good size (6’1″), and this allows him to scan the field and make plays. Smith also has a strong arm. You really see it when he throws deep balls. He constantly throws the ball perfectly to his receivers. Smith has a bright future ahead of him. He has the skills to play at the next level.

As a runner, he has good size (6’1″) and athleticism, as he is hard to tackle. He is good when the play breaks down, as he can make defenders miss. Then, as a passer, he is a natural thrower of the football. He throws with good anticipation. He is excellent at sitting in the pocket and throwing a good ball. His ability to read a defense and know where he wants to throw the ball is good. Smith has a chance to be a stock riser and move up this list, and I expect him to play even better next season.

Smith lives on the boundary specifically on vertical boundary shots. His release is quick and looks effortless before he flicks the ball 45 yards down the field perfectly into the basket. Smith is a gifted runner, fast, shifty, and good vision. When I watch him play you kind of have to admire it. The mechanics are picture perfect from the throwing motion to the hips and all the way down to how his feet are positioned. Smith will be a polarizing prospect in a couple of years without a doubt.

Standing with a good size as a freshman, Smith has a processor developed light years ahead of other freshman QBs. He’s quick and decisive with the football. His accuracy is killer, and his touch he throws makes the ball spin beautifully in air. The accuracy, solid arm strength, and processing ability all rocks, but he adds another dimension with his rushing ability. Northgate uses Smith on QB keepers, letting him run free. Smith has a clear high ceiling and is getting my certified stamp.
