Hernton was arguably the most polished defensive back in attendance. His fundamentals were clean and repeatable, highlighted by calm, controlled footwork against speed releases and disciplined hand usage that avoided overextending on jams. He showed toughness in goal-line situations and consistently closed space once the ball was thrown. Hernton’s closing speed stood out late in reps, allowing him to recover and finish plays — a trait that translates well in both man and zone concepts.
