Battle has continued to produce at a high level in Rochester for two seasons at Aquinas and even before that when he was at Irondequoit. I really like Battle’s movement skills – think he is a smooth efficient back who doesn’t waste steps or make poor reads. His vision and efficiency are really big standouts – he dominates camps as well. I saw him a couple of times and any RB Drill, WR Drill, 1v1 situation Battle consistently stands out. Battle may not wow you with any single trait but he one of the better football players in New York.

Battle has been committed to Mercyhurst since summer but has continued to pick up some D2 offers since his commitment – one of the most efficient athletes at the position, Battle is a true three-down back. Call it change of tempo, his change of direction + patience make him so difficult to tackle. Battle is as good as any back in the area and his production and film is what pushed him far up the rankings.

Battle returns as one of the top running backs in the state, and the Mercyhurst commit is a really smooth athlete who can operate on all three downs. He shows on film he can be a physical runner in between the tackles but also has the burst and ability to make guys miss outside the tackles and in space. He is one of the better backs in New York in terms of his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Last season, he had ten receptions, which may seem low, but he tied for second on the team.

Battle, who was dominant for an Aquinas team that experienced roster turnover last season, steps into this fall not just as the leader of a very talented but young offense but also as a Division 1 commit, as he pledged to Mercyhurst this week. Battle earned his offer at Mercyhurst camp, and while he may not be the biggest or the fastest RB prospect in NY, he is an incredibly efficient runner with potentially the best vision and feel for the game. Battle is a true 3-down back prospect who can do good work in the screen and short passing game. He brings solid measurables and can push 200lbs in college.

who made the move from Irondequoit to Aquinas for this past season was one of the most effective runners in all of New York. Battle had big time games against Pittsford and Fairport which showcased his ability. Battle is a smooth athlete who shows really good burst through the hole. Battle does his best work as a one-cut type of RB who can put his foot and the ground and really get upfield and shows the speed to get by defensive backs. He has a strong lower half and showcases the ability to consistently break arm tackles and fight through tackle attempts from defensive backs.

had a heck of a season this past year when he rushed for 1,205 yards, had 10 TD’s, and averaged 6.4 yards per carry. As an RB, two of the biggest standouts in Battle’s game were his field vision and patience. So many times, Derrion was able to see an opening right when he took a hand-off and was able to cut suddenly to hit that opening for a big-time gain. A lot of defenders ended up tackling air when they would attempt to tackle Battle because of the types of moves he could put on them. So many spin moves were executed to perfection to allow him to gain extra yardage or move the chains. The other question Derrion answered quickly in his tape was if he could be a physical runner as well, which was a “yes”. If Battle needs to be a physical runner down by the goal line or in short yardage situations, he can be. Battle was able to punch in many scores for 6 in goal to go situations for Aquinas. The motor and drive to want to get to the end zone is there in Derrion’s game but finishing some of these electric runs will be a goal for him in 2024 to really take his tape to the next level.
