About Derrick

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I pray. I’m a team player who is determined and put my all in every play. With my strength, I block and guard to give the quarterback the time he needs to make the plays. I listen, reading defenses and adjusting. I’m a disciplined player who knows that every block counts. My teammates trust me to stand tall against the toughest defenders, and I never back down from a challenge.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I’m a team-first player who thrives on hard work and consistency. I stay calm under pressure, knowing that every block I make helps my teammates succeed. I’m mentally tough, focused on the details, and always ready to push through adversity. Discipline and resilience define my approach, on and off the field, I give my all every single play.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

Track Powerlifting National Honor Society

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

Through football, I’ve developed strong leadership skills by guiding and supporting my teammates both on and off the field. I know success comes from everyone working together and trusting each other. Beyond the game, I’m committed to giving back through community service, understanding the importance of using my platform to make a positive impact.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

One of the biggest challenges I faced was making the jump from middle school to high school varsity as a freshman. I had always been one of the bigger players among my peers, so I was used to dominating on the field. But stepping onto the varsity level, I quickly realized that many players were just as big, and some even stronger. It was humbling at first, but it pushed me to work harder.

What type of college are you looking for?

I’m looking for a college that values both athletics and academics, where I can continue growing as a player while pursuing my education. I want a program with a strong team culture where coaches and teammates push each other to be their best every day. It’s important to me to be part of a community that supports personal growth, leadership, and preparing for life beyond football.

  • In 2025 OT Derrick Hooker, Jr. Derrick Hooker, Jr. Derrick Hooker, Jr. 6'5" | 250 lbs | OL/EDGE Grenada | 2029 MS was selected to the UA Next 2025 All-American Game, representing Team Unstoppable.
  • Standing at 6’2 240 Hooker clearly projects as a tackle at the higher levels, and while he doesn’t have official arm length measurements, the eye test says his arms are long enough to stick at tackle as well.
  • Hooker is a big physical blocker, using his towering stature to his advantage to move people off the line and completely overwhelm them. His size however doesn’t slow Hooker down, as while he isn’t the fleetest of footed, he can certainly hold his own against finesse style rushers and keep them out of the backfield.
