Derek has been an exceptional, active backer. He has good size and has a frame to add an additional 15 lbs without limiting his skillset. He has good quickness, does well weaving his way through traffic, and does not get bogged down. He moves well sideline to sideline and has good overall instincts. He is a physical backer and is best as an on-ball backer, but will do fine in space.

He has been most effective as an on-ball backer, but was used in all situations last year as he was one of their best players. The experience last year should translate this year. He has good quickness, moves well, has good pursuit, and is a physical player. He potentially is a player who can garner 100+ tackles. He is set up for a big year, and he should get regional looks in recruiting.
