Expert Analysis
Kelly Christian | Prep Redzone Scout
McKinnley’s presence and play-making ability in the secondary make quarterbacks hesitate to throw to his side. They are afraid of McKinnley either making a play on the ball or setting up their receivers for a big hit. He is versatile in Hughes’ secondary, making plays at safety off the hash, rolled down in man coverage, or even accounting for TFLs from in the box. McKinnley currently holds 18 Division 1 offers from FCS to P4 programs.

Similar to Mizysak, McKinley is a prospect that could break onto the varsity scene in a big way as a sophomore. He is listed at 5’11 170, but plays bigger and has plenty of growth left in the tank. For a youngster, he plays with good mechanics. He does a good job of keeping his shoulders squared to the ball carrier and takes good angles when he pursues. He is a willing and capable tackler, striking with good pad level and getting his arms around ball carriers. With his combination of fundamentals, athleticism, and upside, he could be a multi-year varsity contributor.
