The sign of a strong high school running back is when they show a distinct, second gear on film. For Demetris Williams Demetris Williams 5'11" | RB Clayton | 2025 State NJ , he saves that gear for the open field to break off long runs. Williams was featured in a Wing-T offense as more of a utility back – as I would imagine Clayton looked to get him the ball as many different ways as possible. Although it was a questionable flag on film, Williams shows that he has the athletic ability to leap over another human being who is trying to tackle him. Cutback lane vision may not be tested at his next optical exam, but the tape shows Williams passes that test. We see him, even in a Wing-T offense, cut back for open lanes as he sees them. Should there not be an exit backside for Williams to escape through, he does a nice job jump-cutting as he presses non-existent holes until he can do so no longer. I think Williams profiles as a downhill, 1-cut runner in a spread offense in the future.

On the other side of the Pitman-Clayton battle is Demetris Williams Demetris Williams 5'11" | RB Clayton | 2025 State NJ . If there is one RB to really keep an eye on this Thanksgiving, it’s Demetris. Demetris has been tough to slow down all year, as he’s rushed for 1620 yards and has found the end zone over 20 times. Demetris is electric every time the ball touches his hands. He’s not your average size back, as he is a little taller and built like a long distance runner. However, when his legs get moving, defenders have a tough time keeping up with him. Demetris has excellent vision and great field awareness to go with it, having the ability to anticipate the flow of the defenders and stop in his tracks when they get near.

Clayton hasn’t played another opponent in almost a month, but the last time they stepped on the field against Lower Cape May Demetris exploded for 210 rushing yards and finished the day with 5 rushing touchdowns.
