The University of St. Thomas secured a verbal commitment from Declan Walsh Declan Walsh 6'3" | 230 lbs | DL Benet | 2025 State IL in late July, a commitment they are surely excited about. Walsh is one of the top pass rushers in the state for the class of 2025. His explosive get-off allows him to time the snap perfectly and beat offensive tackles with his speed. Walsh’s quick first step, combined with his active pass-rush moves, makes him a formidable threat. His ability to consistently pressure the quarterback adds significant value to St. Thomas’s defense.

While his season was cut short due to injury, Walsh burst onto the scene in 5 games last season. The 6’3, 230 lbs pass rusher possesses elite athleticism and physicality that allows him to make opposing quarterbacks extremely uncomfortable in the pocket. His signature move, a speed rip around the edge, showcases his ability to get to the QB in the blink of an eye. Walsh plays with a high motor and uses a deadly combination of speed and hands to create pressure. One of the more underrated pass rushers in the Land of Lincoln, keep an eye on Walsh as a rising star next season.

The incoming junior defensive from Illinois’s Benet Academy in Declan Walsh showed off some sizable force and power with his hands and positioning from what I watched in Dinkytown at the Minnesota camp on Wednesday night. He also showed off some great balance with his Indy and 1v1 reps from what I witnessed as their is a ceiling that he can even improve even more with looking forward with two more seasons of HS football under his belt. Declan also finished his reps I watched consistently with great vision and angle knowledge as this kid showed off a work-horse mentality within the trenches from my eyes with how consistent and fluid every finish he had to the ball carrier was on Wednesday. His tape shows off a EDGE that has an efficent twitch off the snap and quickly with his great technique has some tenacious moves he can use at his disposal. He certainly looks like a Division I body and skillset levels match from what I got to watch on Wednesday and on tape.
