The massive offensive tackle continue to get better every time I see him play. Up to 296 lbs now, Smiley is incredibly mobile, agile and athletic in his ability to pass protect, run block and get downfield for blocks top extend plays for his skill teammates. His physical play sets the tone for the offensive line he anchors. Darrius plays aggressively, but has learned to channel it in a controlled manner to his and his teams advantage over when time when he started as a freshman. Long arms and uses his hands well. He did a good job going against Lift’s future D1 DEs who he played against. Visited Wisconsin the next day and has seen his recruitment continue to go strong from other schools including home state Mizzou, who he took a game day visit to recently.

All-District Darrius Smiley Darrius Smiley 6'6" | 270 lbs | OL St. Mary's | 2028 State MO started at left tackle as a freshman and is listed as the No. 1 recruit in his class, regardless of position. He is big. He is mean. He is everything you want in a developing tackle.

Smiley has incredible footwork for his size and moves his 265 pounds with efficiency. I haven’t seen a young lineman like this in a while. The St. Mary’s coaching staff has done an outstanding job keeping him conditioned to pull into space—and he finishes the job when he gets there. If Darrius gets his hands on you, you’re going backward, no matter your assignment.

His build is long with a solid frame—heavy-boned but not sloppy. He represents the new-age big man: athletic, powerful, and capable of playing behind his pads. Mechanically, he’s impressive for all four quarters and never gives up on a play. Still holds first off from Nebraska.
