Darius Pope
About Darius
Expert Analysis
Chad Graham | Prep Redzone Scout
Overview: Pope is an outside receiver with some suddenness and twitch. His short-area quickness allows him to get off press coverage at the line of scrimmage and make defenders miss after the catch. He has the big play ability to turn 5 into 20 and 20 into 40. His agility, speed, and strength open up the full route tree for him. And though he’s not the tallest pass catcher, Pope even wins at the top of the route on fades with his ball skills and footwork. He projects as an X and/or a Z due to how well he stretches the field and creates YAC. Pope also has the movement skills and tools to be an elite defensive back.

A big time playmaker for DM Elite all weekend long, Darius was out there making some highlight reel level catches. From play one of the playoffs on Sunday, Darius streaked down the sideline past the defense for a long TD, setting the standard for the day ahead. He consistently was able to get over top the defense and speed past defenders for long receptions and scores. I can confidently say that he probably had double digit TD receptions on the weekend and was one of the top performers of the whole tournament. Darius currently holds a handful of FBS offers, and if he continues to put on shows like he did this weekend ad summer camps that offer number will be rising!

is a polished and versatile wide receiver in the class of 2026 who can impact a game in multiple ways. At 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, he has the size and catch radius to be a strong red-zone target while possessing the fluidity and explosiveness to create separation in the open field. Last season, he put up impressive numbers with 38 receptions for 791 yards and 12 touchdowns, showing his ability to stretch the field and make plays after the catch. Pope is good at finding soft spots in zone coverage, making him an effective weapon on short and intermediate routes. His highlights also display his ability to take the top off a defense as a serious deep threat.
One of Pope’s standout traits is his ability to generate yards after the catch (YAC). He is dangerous in the open field and can make defenders miss. Pope has the stride length to pull away for significant gains. Though not a pure burner, Pope has a noticeable separation burst, which helps him get open consistently. His ability to maintain a good tempo throughout his routes makes him an effective route runner, capable of running the entire route tree.
He shows strong body control and ball-tracking ability in contested catch situations, making him a reliable target in traffic and the red zone. His touchdown on a fade route, where he outjumped the defender, highlights his ability to win in one-on-one matchups.
Pope is a complete receiver who can be used in various ways, from quick screens to deep routes. Due to his blend of size, route-running ability, and playmaking after the catch, he projects as a high-level receiver at the next level. With continued development in his explosiveness and top-end speed, Pope has the potential to keep climbing in the PRZ rankings as a prospect.

Darius made one of the biggest overall rankings jumps from last summer to now rising roughly 80 spots to #53 overall and the #8 overall WR.
Making All State WR and helping Middletown to a state title as a junior, Darius just under 800 yards on 38 receptions and raking up 12 TDs. A great looking kid on the hoof, he has good size/body type, huge hands and great length. He plays fast, sudden, physical and has elite ball skills. An excellent athlete as well, Darius has a big catch radius, capable of going up to get it mossing defenders and making difficult catches. A playmaker with the ball in his hands, he will get you YAC and run by defenders.
Currently holding a handful of offers with two of them being at the Power 4 level, look for Darius to blow up this spring/summer. He is a no brainer Power 4 kid and well show why he is deserving of this ranking.

Darius had a huge game vs Sallie and made the game winning TD catch in OT to secure the win for Middletown. On the day he had 12 catches for 171 yards and 3 TDs helping lead the comeback by making play after play. His game winning catch was an impressive one handed snag in the back of the end zone. He had another impressive TD catch where he went up between multiple defenders to high point the ball and come down with a very athletic play for the catch. He is a playmaker with elite ball skills and it showed in the game. Darius has had a huge junior season, being and impact player for Middletown all year and really showed that ability in the most important game. He has a couple Power 4 Offers currently and I expect that number to increase big time this winter/spring.
12 Catches for 171 yds & 3 Touchdowns with the 1 handed game winning td in OT!
