I was a big fan of Damar’eon Cawthon after his freshman season in the Land of Lincoln, ranking him #15 overall and as WR3 in the 2026’s inaugural rankings publishment. Sometime after his freshman season concluded, Cawthon transferred to Orlando-area powerhouse Apopka High School, one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in Central Florida. He didn’t play in 2023, but is set to explode on the Sunshine State’s prep football scene this fall after what was becoming an accomplished and explosive career in Illinois.
The spring game highlights against Orlando public school heavyweight Jones High School, displayed a 6’2, 190 lb. WR who is a shifty route runner who breaks off his routes well and can naturally find and exploit holes in zone coverage. He is sure-handed and displays a big catch radius, including on throws behind him, and can finish receptions through contact and will go up and high-point the football out of the air. Cawthon is also sudden after the catch – sending a would-be tackler flying by him and off his feet and onto his face in impressive and embarrassing fashion, and can utilize and take advantage of space provided to him by a defense. Fast, big, quick, I like where his recruitment is heading. No offers yet, but that could change any day now. Get in before he’s too hot!
