Matthew Layton | Prep Redzone Scout
Speaking of Greenbrier East transfers that are now playing on the West side, junior linebacker Colin “CW” Sturgell has been a welcomed addition too for the Cavaliers. I think the move has been very beneficial for Sturgell and definitely for Greenbrier West as he has locked down a spot on defense for them. He started the season wearing #21 and has moved to #51 in the second half of the season and has played on the line some this year. At 5’10 200 he’s a bit undersized especially when he has his hand in the dirt but if you watch his film you can see he plays above his size and then some. Sturgell is your classic hard-nosed tough player that loves to come downhill and hit you. He’s a consistent tackler and I can see why they would want him playing on the line with his style of play.

Colin “CW” Sturgell is a tough two-way player for the Greenbrier East Spartans. The 5’9 200 rising junior starts at fullback and linebacker for the Spartans and showed good things at both positions as a sophomore in 2022. Sturgell is a little undersized but is put together well for his age and you can tell he lives in the weight room. He’s a physical player that runs hard on offense and can break arm tackles and also lay the wood on defense. His strength benefits him when he’s blocking as a fullback and allows him to be a sure tackler at linebacker. Strugell isn’t a blazer but has enough speed that he can rip off some big gains and break free at times. With stud running back Ian Cline transferring out of state, Sturgell may have to carry the load this season for the Spartans.
