Matthews was one of the lone bright spots for Western Harnett last season as a freshman, finishing second on the team in rushing and picking off two passes as a defender. He played his best as a center fielder type of free safety, where he could square up to the line of scrimmage and react to the quarterback. He’s a guy who should continue to develop into a talented two-way player.
