About Courtland

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I am physical and strong DB that combines strength, speed and athleticism to make hard punishing plays on opponents. I can also cover the best receivers and large zones giving the D-line the ability to get to the QB. I play fast and physical making quick reads and breaks like Malik Mustapha for the 49ers and mirror his play.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I’m going to be tough, wear down my opponent physically and mentally to get them off the field in 3 plays or less. I want teams to throw to my side so I can make them pay for that decision because I’m going to take the ball out of the air or make the receivers not want to run routes in my area. On the field I’m vocal and comfortable leading the secondary or entire defense.

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I’m focused on my grades have a 4.1 GPA. I helped coach my brothers’ Pop Warner team and will continue supporting their development and training. I would like to become more involved in service activities at my new school and community.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I’ve helped coach and volunteered at practices and games for my younger brothers Pop Warner teams. I’m also always looking to help and participate in any events at school or around the community where I can help people or other groups in anyway that they can use my skills.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

I think my biggest challenge I’ve faced personally was having to make the decision to step away from basketball which I’ve played since 4 years old this past year. I love my team so much and my coaches were awesome but I realized that I wasn’t helping them as much as I wanted playing and training for football as much as I was. In the end I feel football is my best opportunity after HS for college.

What type of college are you looking for?

I would like to play at the highest level possible for my size, skill and abilities, preferably an opportunity that also will allow me to thrive in the classroom as well as on the field.

Rushing for over 1,000 yards and 17 total touchdowns, Simmons was the workhorse for the Bulldogs, they love to line him all over offensively. He makes plays wherever the put him and has explosive/breakaway speed in the open.

After a great season at Norfolk Academy, moved from #97 to #45 overall ranked player in VA class of 2028. All credit goes to my teammates and coaches-period.

Courtland Simmons Courtland Simmons Courtland Simmons 5'9" | 183 lbs | DB/RB Norfolk Academy | 2028 State VA stood out as the only true safety at the camp—and he made the most of the spotlight. At 5’10”, 177 pounds, Simmons has a solid, well-built frame and brings a physical presence to the field. He showed off his quickness with an impressive 4.43 shuttle time and displayed strong man-to-man coverage skills, a valuable trait for a safety. Simmons performed at a high level throughout drills, taking coaching points well and applying them immediately. His versatility and football IQ make him a high-upside prospect in the 2027 class.

Like many younger Weddington players, Simmons has made a bigger name for himself at camps than on varsity so far, but there’s reason to believe that will change. He bounced between junior varsity and varsity as a sophomore. He’s a guy who looks like a future standout free safety with few deficiencies against either the run or the pass. He may have to wait on talented older players to graduate, but should make some sort of impact this season.
