has some raw size and ability. I do think however, that he would be better suited to work closer to the man when pass rushing. Space is not necessarily his friend in this situation, as it is just more distance between him and the opposing quarterback.

Russell jumped out to me during stretching and warmups because of his size and length, passing the eye test pretty quickly. In the neighborhood of 6-foot-1 and 190 solid pounds (unverified), he looks like an ideal defensive end on this level. In addition to his longer arms, what stood out to me was how fast he shot his hands after the snap and his motor. Those three things: length, hands and motor are three pretty important things for a defensive end to be successful. If he makes this 14U All-Star team, he’s another defensive lineman that could serve as a nice chess piece since he’s strong enough to handle the bumping on the inside; Yet, he’s quick enough to beat those interior blocking schemes. It’s that quickness that also aids him in rushing the passer a defensive end, too.
