Godenschwager racked up 21 solo tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 2 interceptions during his junior campaign this past fall. The dynamic strong safety out of Downers Grove South is difficult to block in the open field. He plays with a high motor and can weave in and out of traffic to cut opposing ball carriers down at the point of contact. In coverage, Godenschwager is a highly instinctual player who can jump routes to take the ball away. Both a secure tackler and a trusted defender in coverage, this do-it-all safety is poised for a massive senior season.
Coen Godenschwager has great instinct at the safety position. He is a smart player that trust his eyes which allows him to play fast. He always seems to be a step ahead putting him great position to make plays. He ended his junior year with multiple pass breakups and 2 interceptions. He is also fantastic in run support, flying down hill when he sees run and finishing plays with big hits. Godenschwager recruiting is early but is trending in a positive direction.
Godenschwager is a do-it-all safety for Downers Grove South. In his sophomore campaign, Godenschwager showed off range, ball skills, and physicality. He measures in at 5’11, 175 and plays much bigger. Starting in pass coverage, Godenschwager showcases the ability to play zone and man coverage. In zone coverage, he controlled the middle of the field with speed and sharp breaks between the hashes. In man, Godenschwager excelled with his technique and ball skills on 50/50 balls to the opposing wide receivers. In the run game, Godenschwager gets downhill with speed to make strong and physical tackles at or near the line of scrimmage. Heading into his junior season, Godenschwager stock is on the rise.

Downers Grove South | 2025 StateIL tape during the rankings process, as he was a beast on the JV ranks of the Mustangs and just barely missed the cut to be ranked in our talent-rich Top 150. The 5’11, 175 lber. posted 76 tackles, 6 PBUs, an INT, and a forced fumble in 2022 and recently maxed out at a 175 lb. bench, 295 lb. squat, 31″ vert, and 8’7″ broad jump with a reported 4.59 laser 40. The sophomore tape is fun, as he can change direction well, which helps make plays in pass coverage in a variety of different situations, and he also flies upfield and triggers on the ball with impressive pace, closing with speed and using his full momentum to minimize gains and make tackles at or behind the LOS. He’s got range in both pass coverage and run support and definitely has the physical edge needed at the safety spot. I can’t wait to get some new and updated film on Godenschwager in a couple months.
