Cambridge-Isanti | 2028 MN is another recently uncovered 2028 flashing D1-size, ability, and film so far through the 2026 season. At 6’4, 220 lbs., Vangorden is a TE/DE whose Week 1-4 O and D highlights display a big, tall, well-filled-out presence on his junior tape.
As a traditional inline TE, Vangorden gets off the ball well as a route runner, can flip his hips and change direction smoothly, and uses tight angles and doesn’t round things off at the top of the route. The first rep of his junior midseason tape shows off a great snag on a deepish out route that was thrown behind him. He then steps and slips through two tackle attempts at his legs before being popped to the ground by the third tackle attempt.
Vangorden is a long, strong, physical, crushing run blocker who does a good job of fighting and reengaging for interior hand placement and ideal technical advantages, and I love the catch radius, concentration, and overall soft hands. He plucks the ball out of the air and away from his body smoothly and easily, trucked a defender and stayed upright in impressively balanced fashion, and is a bully of a blocker with strength, power, and physicality.
On defense, Vangorden is a 5T in C-I’s 3-4 defensive front who shows some twitch and play speed from the defensive line. Vangorden displays an explosive get-off, can bend and drop his hips, shows a good chop/rip, and stays tight off OTs backsides. The 220 lber. fights and works through contact well as a pass rusher, even against holding, and can effectively execute stunts and twists. The junior is a good 1v1 tackler in space and in the backfield, and I love the hand usage, lateral agility, and ability to redirect, and close on QBs with impressive speed and pace. His start/stop speed shows up well on tape and is impressive for a bigger junior DL. I’m itching to get more tape and information on this kid ASAP.
