Bonta is still considered to be a Connolly Cup favorite although his statistical output is down from a year ago. That hasn’t stopped him from being the focal point of the Jamestown program. Chase ran for 160 yards against the Lions and reached the endzone 3 times. All the while, leading the team in tackles with 15 tackles and adding a forced fumble.

Bonta came extremely close to winning the Connolly Cup as a junior racking up almost 2,000 yards rushing and 26 TDs on the ground, all the while making 119 tackles on defense. It was a breakout season for Chase but now the secret is out. If he can have a repeat performance as a senior, it will be hard to deny him this season.

There is no doubt Bonta was the breakout player of the year last season. He went from a predominately LB role where he made 70 tackles in 2023 to a Connolly Cup finalist in 2024 where he not only had 119 tackles as a LB but exploded for almost 2,000 yards on the ground and 26 TDs.
This is a name we will hear a lot this season; Chase is a physical player with excellent speed and great awareness. He will be in the Connolly Cup conversation again this year.

Bonta could have made the list as a top RB or LB in this class. He was named to every team in Section VI (All WNY, All State, All League, etc…) and came close to winning the Connolly Cup in his first season as a full time RB. Chase ran for almost 2,000 yards and 20+ touchdowns while also recording his second straight 100+ tackle season at LB. He possesses solid speed and closes his runs with aggression.
