I recently had the opportunity to review the highlight film of Charles Julian Straker Charles Julian Straker 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB East Catholic | 2028 State New E , a promising player from East Catholic High School in Connecticut. Standing at 6’1″ and weighing 185 pounds, Straker is classified as a defensive back and wide receiver in the 2028 class. His performance during the 2025 season has positioned him as a noteworthy prospect, particularly as a projected free safety.
Straker showcases impressive field awareness, particularly in zone coverages, making him a reliable asset in defensive schemes. His physical play style is evident in his effective run support, where he demonstrates a strong grasp of tackling techniques, notably using the “wrap and roll” method to minimize missed tackles. This defensive instinct is complemented by a keen understanding of the game, allowing him to anticipate plays and react swiftly.
However, like many young athletes, Straker has areas for improvement. His short-area quickness needs further development to improve his ability to change direction quickly. I recommend incorporating yoga into his training regimen to improve flexibility and agility, which are essential for a defensive back. Additionally, ongoing skill development specifically focused on DB techniques and strength training in the weight room is crucial as he prepares for the next level.
To better assess his athleticism and pinpoint specific areas to refine, participation in combine testing would be beneficial. Overall, Charles Julian Straker Charles Julian Straker 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB East Catholic | 2028 State New E exhibits significant potential, and with a commitment to his training, he is sure to make a strong impact in the New England Class of 2028 rankings with Prep Redzone New England.
