Versatility and production were the calling cards for Schmitt during his sophomore campaign. He contributed in all three phases. On offense, he caught 27 passes for 258 yards and rushed for 135 more on 22 carries. Schmitt racked up 70.5 tackles (62.0 solo, 3.0 TFL) and a pair of picks. He averaged 20.0 yards on 14 kick returns. Schmitt’s sophomore highlight video shows us a receiver capable of delivering difficult catches and making people miss in space. He can also get deep. Schmitt packs promise as a defensive back. He sticks in coverage and is a sound tackler. Much of what helps him in the first two phases make him effective as a returner.
