Expert Analysis
Jordan Reyes | Prep Redzone Scout
An outstanding two-way difference maker for La Jolla, Diehl consistently impacts the game at both wide receiver and defensive back and projects as a player who could seamlessly transition to either side of the ball at the college level. He checks every box physically at 6’2”, 185 pounds, pairing his frame with savvy athleticism and solid all-around game speed. He flashes strong instincts and awareness, allowing him to play fast and anticipate plays before they fully develop. His ball skills stand out on both sides of the ball, highlighted by good tracking ability and natural adjustments to the football in the air. Whether attacking the ball as a receiver or breaking on passes in coverage, he shows confidence and control at the catch point. Recently signed to San Diego State over an offer from Colorado State.

Diehl announced his commitment to hometown San Diego St. this week. La Jolla’s senior WR/DB has been one of the top two-way players in the county since his breakout sophomore season in 2023 and has continued to develop into one of the elite playmakers in his class. The Aztecs are getting a lengthy, versatile athlete with major upside in his route-running and ball skills as a future wideout at the D-I level. Diehl chose SDSU over other offers from Army, Colorado St., Georgetown, and Cornell.

Diehl added five D-I offers from Air Force, Cornell, Georgetown, Army, and Montana St. this month. The talented two-way player out of La Jolla first put his name on the radar with his highly productive sophomore season on both sides of the ball (769 rec. yards, 10 TDs; 8 INTs) and has continued to show the high-level combination of ball skills and athleticism he brings to the table. Diehl holds other offers from San Diego St. and Colorado St.

The San Diego product is one of the top pass catchers across the section, and is a twitchy and explosive route runner with the ideal length and frame for either receiver position. He is very fluid in his routes, shows he can create separation downfield and has strong hands in traffic while able to make off-platform catches from various angles. He can play on either side of the field and shows short area quickness and lateral movement after the catch when making defenders miss in space and is a true home-run threat with the ball in his hands. Currently, he holds offers from Colorado State and SDSU.

Diehl was one of the most productive two-way players in San Diego as a sophomore, recording 52 catches for over 700 yards and 10 TDs at WR and 8 INTs from his FS spot. On defense, he’s a rangy, instinctive deep safety that can read eyes, anticipate play/route development, and create turnovers with advanced ball skills. He’s a solid tackler in space that works downhill and uses field leverage to his advantage. On offense, he’s a focused route-runner that can create separation out of the slot or on the perimeter, uses deceptive breakpoints to keep DBs guessing, and shows strong hands and physicality at the catch-point against tight coverage. Diehl’s positioned himself as one of the most talented and versatile two-way athletes in San Diego’s ‘26 class with his sophomore tape/production- D-I programs should be looking to get in early on his recruitment.
