Carl is one of the most versatile players on the field, with the ability to make an impact as a runner, pass catcher and defender. I have highlighted his running ability in the past, but this time his skills as a receiver take center stage. Carl gets behind the defense on a go route, tracks the football with ease and makes a simple pitch and catch look effortless before turning on the jets upfield. The speed is obvious, but his ability to locate the ball downfield and finish the play is what stood out here. Wherever Carl lines up, he gives the offense another way to create a big play.

Carl Lomax Carl Lomax 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB/ATH NJ is a player I have become very familiar with at this point, and he continues to show why he has one of the highest ceilings in the NJ 2031 class. In his latest matchup, Carl went over 200 rushing yards and found the end zone three times, displaying the combination of vision, burst and physical running that has consistently stood out. His long stride allows him to cover ground quickly, but he remains shifty enough to make defenders miss when he gets into space.

I last saw Carl compete at The Rize, where his ability as a pass catcher really caught my attention. While he can clearly impact a game from the backfield, I believe his receiving ability could make him even more dangerous as he continues to develop. Carl has proven he can create plays in multiple ways on both sides of the ball, and his continued production is another reason I view him as one of the top 2031 prospects coming out of New Jersey.

Carl Lomax Carl Lomax 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB/ATH NJ continued to elevate his stock throughout the offseason, most notably earning Top Performer honors at the Rize event in New Jersey this summer. That performance built on what I saw from Carl earlier in the spring at the PA 7v7, where he stood out on both sides of the ball with his play recognition and ability to make plays in coverage. His versatility has been a constant theme, and he has continued to show why he can impact the game from multiple positions.

While Carl has plenty of upside as a running back, his ability as a pass catcher may be what makes him especially intriguing. He runs routes comfortably against linebackers and defensive backs, creates separation and has the catch radius to finish plays outside his frame. Once the ball is secured, his long stride allows him to quickly eat up space in the open field. With another strong offseason in the books, Carl has established himself as one of the more versatile athletes to watch in the NJ 2031 class.

Immediately, I was able to tell that Carl Lomax Carl Lomax 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB/ATH NJ was one of the younger running back prospects to compete. A former regional top performer, I thought that Lomax ran a bit too upright. As his body develops as he ages, in terms of flexibility and strength, I expect this to improve. As a pass catcher I thought that Lomax tracked the deep ball well on verts and wheels. Lastly, he had a tendency to make noises when he made his cuts – likely for emphasis or style points I assume.

Another 2031 back making their way onto the Top Performers list, Carl Lomax Carl Lomax 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB/ATH NJ has all the skills needed to make a huge impact on the field any time he steps on it. Carl is another RB who’s true calling may be as a wide receiver, especially given how natural he looked as a pass catcher. He was at his most impressive working routes against both linebackers and defensive backs, consistently creating separation and making it an easy pitch and catch. Carl’s large catch radius stands out, allowing him to extend and finish catches outside his frame with ease. Once the ball is in his hands, his long stride running style helps him eat up ground quickly and makes it difficult to track him down in the open field. Lomax is a versatile athlete that can thrive anywhere you need him.

I’ve had the opportunity to see Carl multiple times, including at the Who’s Next event earlier this year and again at the PA 7v7, and each viewing has reinforced just how special of an athlete he can be. An electric playmaker with the ball in his hands, Carl moves with exceptional fluidity and shows smooth, effortless transitions laterally. His running style is incredibly elastic, allowing him to change direction without losing speed or balance. Beyond the athletic traits, he’s an efficient mover and decisive decision-maker who wastes very little motion. With his combination of athleticism and instincts, Carl possesses one of the highest ceilings of any prospect in attendance.

Carol Lomax is a stud out of the 2031 class in New Jersey. Lomax is a pure athlete and can make plays from anywhere with the ball in his hands. He has that kind of ability that really impacts his team well and puts pressure on opponents. He is hard to contain, and I think he could make some noise and make some impact at the “RIZE” in New Jersey coming up!

Only a 2031 prospect, Carl separated himself as one of the top athletes at the PA Classic event this past weekend. Excelling on both sides of the ball, Carl lined up as the safety for his defense and did a phenomenal job keeping the play in front of him, never giving opposing offenses the opportunity for large chunk plays. With his head on a swivel and feet constantly moving, Carl picked up any receiver entering his territory. He put his skills on display when his quick play recognition allowed him to jump a route across the middle, nearly picking it off and going the other direction. As a receiver, Carl is very twitchy and even more dangerous once the ball is in his hands. Carl is setting himself up for a very bright future.

Carl Lomax Carl Lomax 5'11" | 175 lbs | RB/ATH NJ was one of the more electric backs to watch throughout the event, consistently flashing traits that translate directly to game speed. His lateral movement was quick, clean, and rhythmic, allowing him to change direction on a dime without losing momentum. Long legged and fluid, he showed decisive cuts and an efficient running style that can keep defenders guessing and off balance.

What really separated Carl was his motor. He has an engine that doesn’t quit, and it showed on every rep. That effort, paired with his movement skills, made him a serious problem in coverage as he had multiple moments where linebackers were left trying to play catchup while he ran routes. It’s no surprise he earned MVP votes from both scouts and coaches, as his performance checked every box for a dynamic, high impact back.
